Traidphicnic An Spidéal

FRONT RANK Irish trad musicians, beach walks, hawks, and a giant camera obscura are on the bill for Traidphicnic in An Spidéal tomorrow and Saturday.

Traidphicnic 2014 features traditional music, song, dance, arts, crafts, and masterclasses and begins with a concert on the festival stage with the great fiddler Charlie Lennon and friends at 2pm tomorrow; followed by Johnny Óg Connolly and Garry Ó Briain (3pm ), Niall Teague & The Fast Company (4.30pm ); Tóla Custy and Laoise Kelly (6pm ); and Manchester’s Michael McGoldrick and Dezi Donnelly (7.30pm ).

Saturday’s concerts are Anna Faulkenau (2pm ), launching her new album Féileacán na Saoirse; The Bonny Men (3.30pm ); Ensemble Ériu (5pm ); Siobhán Peoples and Murty Ryan (6.30pm ); with the headliners, accordionist Dermot Byrne and Australian guitar great Steve Cooney (pictured above ), at 8pm.

Outside of the concerts there will be Ronan and his hawk; a guided beach walk with marine biologist David McGrath; herbalist Sinead Keane; a fiddle making demonstration with Paul Bradley; workshops with Harry Bradley, Murty Ryan, Síobhan Peoples, Tóla Custy, Laoise Kelly, and Jack Talty; the Cosán Ealaíne-Art Trail; and free art and craft demonstrations in An Ceardlann, Spidéal Craft Village. There will also be a giant camera obscura, a walk-in, interactive structure based on an ancient camera-type.

All gigs and family activities at Traidphicnic are open on a donate what you can basis.
