GLASSLAND, THE new film by Pilgrim Hill director Gerard Barrett, and starring Jack Reynor, the IFTA winning actor best known for his role in What Richard Did, will have its world premiere at Galway Film Fleadh.
Glassland, to be shown on Friday July 11 at 8pm in the Town Hall Theatre, is about a taxi driver on the fringes of the criminal underworld. In an effort to save his mother from addiction and unite his broken family, he is forced to make a life changing moral decision - one that will push him deeper into criminal ways.
Written and directed by Gerard Barrett, who will attend the Fleadh screening, the film also feature Emmy and Golden Globe winning actress Toni Collette (Little Miss Sunshine ), 2014 BAFTA Rising Star winner Will Poulter (Chronicles Of Narnia ), and award winning Northern Irish actor Michael Smiley (A Field In England ).
Barrett’s work fist came to wider attention through the Galway Film Fleadh when he won the inaugural Bingham Ray New Talent Award and the 2012 screening of his debut Pilgrim Hill.
“The Fleadh gave Pilgrim Hill a platform, and it’s a privilege for me to go back and launch my second film Glassland there,” the director says. “Miriam [Allen, Fleadh managing director] and Gar [O’Brien, Fleadh programmer] played their part in launching my career. It’s a great honour to return where new filmmakers are valued and encouraged.”
