Voice of Ireland star Kelly Mongan this week launched Galway Traveller Pride Week in Ballinasloe Library.
Traveller Pride Week will run until Friday June 27, and celebrates the contribution Travellers make to their communities, in the fields of business, sport, and art, as well as their history and culture.
It will also discuss themes like discrimination, education, and employment.
Traveller Pride Week 2014 was organised by the County Galway Traveller Interagency Group.
The week was jointly launched with the exhibition ‘‘Whiden Toie: the Road to Recognition and Rights’’, an interactive event highlighting some of the milestones over the last 20 years since the Galway Traveller Movement was founded in 1994. The exhibition will be on display in the Ballinasloe Library until Monday July 7.
Other events taking place during the week include a street soccer league, a boxing tournament, a music session, a traditional cookery event, and a living history exhibition and family tree display.
