POET, NOVELIST, songwriter, journalist - Patrick Kavanagh - was born 110 years ago in Monaghan, and his life and works will be celebrated at two events in Galway city.
The sixth annual Kavanagh Days takes place in The Salthill Hotel on Saturday July 5 at 7pm and at The Harbour Hotel on Saturday July 19 at 4pm. Speaking at this year’s events will be actor PJ Brady, author Pat Walsh, Monaghan Association president Peter McDonnell, and Inniskeen storyteller Brian Dooley.
“We all like to reminisce on our childhood, where we grew up, and Kavanagh was no different,” says Ger Considine of the Patrick Kavanagh Western Association, which organises Kavanagh Days. “His appeal is universal. He took our poetry from its focus on history, politics, and ethnicity and returned us to our roots and values.”
The events will feature verse, drama, music, and song. Admission is €10 through http://tiny.cc/u5d6fx or on the door. For more information contact 086 - 8736837 or see kavanaghdaygalway.wordpress.com
