Fionnuala Flanagan to give Fleadh actor’s masterclass

Jesus Of Montréal producer to also attend Fleadh

FIONNUALA FLANAGAN, the only Irish actor to play guest roles on three different Star Trek series - The Next Generation, Deep Space Nine, and Enterprise - will give the actor’s masterclass at this year’s Galway Film Fleadh.

The actors’ masterclass takes place on Friday July 11 from 3pm to 6pm and will cover starting out as an actor; dealing with casting directors; securing an agent; preparing for audition; working on set; and the relationship with the director.

Ms Flanagan has enjoyed an acting career in Hollywood since the 1970s. She has appeared in Some Mother’s Son, The Guard, Waking Ned, and The Others, as well as TV series Lost, Brotherhood, and Defiance. She has won two IFTAs and the Lifetime Achievement Award in 2011.

Ms Flanagan is also an award winning stage actor and director. In the 1980s she wrote, adapted, and produced James Joyce’s Women for the stage, winning the Los Angeles Critics’ Award, the San Francisco Critics’ Award, and a DramaLogue Award. She also adapted Brian Friel’s Freedom of the City for Los Angeles’ Theatre West for which she received a Drama League Award as Best Director.

She also appeared as Molly Bloom, alongside with Zero Mostel, in the 1974 production of Ulysses in Nighttown, for which she was nominated for a Tony Award.

Producers masterclass

French-Canadian Roger Frappier, the producer of the 1989 classic Jesus of Montréal, will give the producers masterclass at the Fleadh on Thursday July 10 from 10am to 1pm, in association with Screen Training Ireland.

Monsieur Frappier’s many films include Anne Trister (1986 ), Pouvoir Intime (1986 ), Ding et Dong le Film (1990 ), La Comtesse de Bâton Rouge (1997 ), and Un 32 août sur terre (1998 ). His 2003 production, Seducing Doctor Lewis, became one of the highest-grossing films in Canadian film history and won the Audience Award at the 2004 Sundance Film Festival.
