Nirvana’s Chad Channing to play Monroe’s Live

CHAD CHANNING, the former Nirvana drummer who played on the band’s 1989 debut album Bleach, is touring Ireland next month with his new band Before Cars.

Like Dave Grohl, his successor on the Nirvana drum stool, Channing has gone from sticksman to lead singer, and fronts the Seattle based quartet who play Monroe’s Live on Saturday July 5. Both lyrically and musically, his songs range from quirky and light-hearted to deep and introspective

Before Cars have released two albums, Walk Back (2009 ), which was recorded by Bleach producer Jack Endino, and How We Run (2013 ), which features a more acoustic guitar-based style, with violin on all songs, reflecting the direction the band have gone with their live performances. They draw inspiration from Young Marble Giants, David Bowie, and Soft Machine.

Ahead of their Galway show, the band will be interviewed and perform a song on RTÉ Radio 1’s The John Murray Show, tomorrow at 9am.

Support is from Dublin rock band Lace Weeper. Tickets are available on the door or through www.monroes.ie and 091 - 583397.
