INFLUENTIAL, ACCLAIMED, and playing The Galway Sessions festival is Irish-American folk/trad band Solas who take to the Monroe’s Live stage this evening at 8pm.
Formed in the 1990s in Washington DC by Séamus Egan and Winifred Horan, the band has released 11 albums, including last year’s acclaimed Shamrock City, and there is a Galway connection, as last year, Galway singer-songwriter Noriana Kennedy joined the line-up.
Shamrock City is a concept album about Michael Conway, Séamus Egan’s great-great uncle, who left Ireland in 1910 for the US, and from there tells the wider story of Irish emigration to the States.
