Hospice applies to expand Renmore facility

Galway Hospice has lodged a planning application for a proposed expansion of its facility in Renmore, following an agreement with the HSE for funding of the development.

Galway Hospice has applied for permission to develop an expansion consisting of a single-storey rear and two-storey north-side extension, consisting of additional bedroom accommodation, communal areas, and ancillary service areas.

The application also seeks permission for the development of a courtyard extension, various elevation changes, and alterations for vehicular and pedestrian access to the facility. A decision is due by August 3. If permission is secured, work is expected to be completed by June 2015.

The news has been welcomed by Fine Gael Galway West TD Brian Walsh, who negotiated with the HSE on behalf of Galway Hospice on this issue.

“This is a milestone in the long struggle to address the organisation’s funding and capacity deficits,” he said. “I’m confident this is one of the final steps in ensuring the organisation gets the support and recognition from Government it deserves.”
