Irish cycling legend Sean Kelly will attend the first criterium race to take place in Highfield Park (just off Shantalla Road ) on Saturday.
Organised by Galway Bay Cycling Club in conjunction with the Galway City Council and the Highfield Residents’ Association, the event will get underway at 7pm with a series of underage races featuring the best youths from around Connacht. The main race starts at 8pm for an hour of fast and furious cycling.
This exciting event sees strong riders force the pace and the weaker ones struggle to hang on. Quick acceleration and bike-handling ability are paramount - diving into corners at high speed, leaning the bike over with a gravity defying angle before sprinting out of the turn.
Underage races for under 12/14/16 A1/A2/A3/A4/junior will precede the main event.
