Oughterard manslaughter accused in court after extradiction

A 38-year-old man charged with the manslaughter of popular publican and teacher John Kenny is to be brought before Galway Circuit Criminal Court this morning after being extradited back to Ireland to face trial.

Marian Lingurar, with a last known address of Orchard Court, Blackpool, County Cork, had been arrested in France on foot of a European arrest warrent and was being held in custody in Marseille awaiting his extradiction which he is understood to have consented to. Officers from the Garda extradiction unit travelled to Marsaille on Tuesday and were in transit with the accused man yesterday afternoon.

Lingurar is charged with the manslaughter of John Kenny at Kenny’s Bar on Main Street, Oughterard, on September 25, 2011. However, the trial could not go ahead last year as Lingurar failed to show and a bench warrent for his arrest was issued.

It is understood that when Lingurar is brought before the court tomorrow an application will be made by the State for the accused to be remanded in custody.
