Protests to highlight the nearly 4,000 people on the Galway City Council housing waiting list will take place at City Hall tomorrow.
People Before Profit Alliance Galway and We’re Not Leaving Galway will be leading the protest outside City Hall at 5.30pm ahead of the first meeting of the newly elected council.
Both groups are calling on the public to join the protest, particularly those “affected by the housing crisis”, and there are plans to make this the “start of a broad campaign on the issue”.
According to a spokesperson for PBPA, as well as the thousands on the waiting list, people in the private sector are also experiencing difficulties due to the cap on rent allowance. There is also a shortage of funding and supports for homelessness services.
