Finnerty retains his seat in Ballinasloe

Fine Gael councilor Michael Finnerty will once again take his seat at County Hall having been deemed elected in the sixth count for the Ballinasloe electoral area at the count centre at NUI Galway.

Speaking in the early hours of Sunday, May 25, Cllr Finnerty said how he was extremely delighted to have received a mandate from the people of Ballinasloe. Cllr Finnerty was a defeated candidate five years ago but was co-opted to Galway County Council in 2011 to replace the new senator Michael Mullins.

Cllr Finnerty added that although Fine Gael had secured two seats for Ballinasloe it was “tinged with sadness” due to the defeat of his colleague Kevin Ryan.
