Voters urged to support anti-fish farm candidates

Candidates who have publicly opposed or raised concerns about the controversial salmon fish farm proposed for Galway Bay should be supported by voters tomorrow.

This is the view of Galway Bay Against Salmon Cages which is opposed to An Bord Iascaigh Mhara’s proposal to locate a 1,126 acre, 15,000 tonne, open caged salmon fish farm off Inis Óirr.

The group has detailed those candidates who have openly stated support for GBASC’s work and are “opposed to BIM’s proposal”. These are Connemara candidates Thomas Welby (Ind ), Padraic ‘A’ Tailliura Conghaile (Ind ), Daithí Ó Cualain (Ind ), Joe Curran (Lab ), Tomas Ó Curraoin (RSF ), Mairin MhicLochlainn (SF ), Sean Ó Tuairisg (FF ), Niamh Byrne (FG ), and Seamus Walsh (FF ); and Athenry-Oranmore’s Jim Cuddy (Ind )

City candidates are Seamus Sheridan (Greens ), Catherine Connolly (Ind ), Colette Connolly (Lab ), Nuala Nolan (Lab ), Terry O’Flaherty (Ind ), Donal Lyons (Ind ), Niall McNelis (Lab ), Mike Cubbard (Ind ), Kiran Emrich (PBPA ), Cathal Ó Chonchúir (SF ), and Mairead Farrell(SF ).

European candidates who have publicly raised concerns over the BIM proposal are Marian Harkin (Ind ), Lorraine Higgins (Lab ), Matt Carthy (SF ), Ronan Mullen (Ind ), Mark Dearey (Greens ).
