Bearna/Na Forbacha residents petition council for footpaths, lighting, and road safety signs

A petition signed by more than 500 Bearna and Na Forbacha residents has been handed into Galway County Council’s senior roads engineer requesting that adequate footpaths, street lights, and road safety signage be provided in the area.

The petition is calling on the council to immediately provide a comprehensive plan and time schedule and to carry out the works as a matter of urgency.

Fianna Fáil local election candidate, MacDara Hosty, who handed in the petition on behalf of the residents said: “This issue has come up time and time again on the doors in the Bearna/Na Forbacha area throughout this campaign. People cannot understand how these critical works have not been completed and cannot understand why the council seem to be ignoring the provision of adequate footpaths and road safety signage in the area.”

The Bearna/Na Forbacha based candidate, who also chairs the local parents’ association in Bearna, went on to say: “Over 500 people have genuine and well grounded concerns regarding their safety on the roads in our area and they have now made those concerns known to the council. Hopefully the council will deal with the matter before it’s too late”
