FOR MORE than 30 years Laura Vecchi Forde taught Italian at NUI Galway, but for longer than that she has been an artist.
Born in Italy in 1939, Laura Vecchi Ford studied art at the Brera Academy in Milan and had her first solo exhibition in 1967. That same year she moved to Galway to teach in the UCG Italian Department.
For more than 30 years, she taught Italian language and literature, but never abandoned art, continuing to make etchings, engravings, and painting all the while, enjoying exhibitions in Ireland, Britain, and Italy.
Laura’s latest exhibition opens this evening at 6pm in the Norman Villa Gallery, Salthill, where the guest speaker will be Fionnuala Gallagher, NUI Galway arts officer.
The exhibition features landscapes and studies, as well as portraits, including Laura’s painting of Margaretta D’Arcy. It runs until May 31.
