Independent city councillor Terry O’Flaherty has given her support to the staff and board of management of Scoil Chaithríona in Renmore who require a new school building urgently.
At a well attended meeting in the Clayton Hotel this week a presentation revealed that a new school building is required as the existing school and pre-fabs are no longer fit for purpose.
“As a nation we constantly and rightly blow our trumpet about our great education system and how educated our young people are going out into the world. Formal education starts on the first year you enter school and the early days in school are the foundation for our children to proper and better themselves. In this regard Scoil Chaitríona has excelled and it is therefore imperative that school buildings and environment match the best.
“All investment by our Government, in this regard, pays for itself a thousand fold when our young people move on to higher levels go out into the world. Scoil Chaitríona has proved itself over and over as a gem of our community and I will support any agenda that is set to improve its facilities from very basic needs to state of the art classrooms.
“When it comes to education our children must have the best, as it is a gilt-edged investment in the future of our nation,” said Cllr O’Flaherty, who added that, as a local elected representative living in Renmore, she fully supports the efforts of the board and management and will lobby the various TDs and ministers to support and fund this initiative.
