As the deadline for voting for Ireland’s first Foodie Town Award draws near, the team behind Galway’s bid for the accolade are calling on everyone to take part in the public voting campaign.
Online voting for the competition, taking place on www.foodietowns.ie, will close at midnight on Sunday.
The application for Galway city was a collaborative submission led by the county and city councils, Galway Chamber of Commerce, Galway Mayo Institute of Technology, RAI, Slow Food Galway, Galway Food Festival, and the local Fáilte Ireland food ambassadors Fergus O’Halloran, Jacinta Dalton, and Jp McMahon with many other food related organisations also supporting the initiative.
The judging process is the final stage of the competition and last Saturday the City of the Tribes was under scrutiny following a visit by the judges.
The other finalists are Cork city, Dingle, Howth, Kilkenny, Kinsale, Lisdoonvarna, Loop Head Peninsula, Sligo town, and Westport. The winning town will be crowned Foodie Town 2014 at the final of the Irish Restaurant Awards on June 9, and will receive a prize package worth €5,000.
