ALTHOUGH THEY began as jazz students, Midlake eventually pioneered a kind of 1970s styled, west-coast Americana, which paved the way for Fleet Foxes and Bon Iver.
The Texans, who Pitchfork said “don’t get enough credit for being ahead of their time. Actually, they don’t get any credit”, have just been announced to play the Róisín Dubh on Wednesday June 25 at 8pm.
On the night they will perform songs from their albums Bamnan and Silvercork (2004 ), the excellent The Trials of Van Occupanther (2006 ), the much acclaimed The Courage Of Others (2010 ), and last year’s Antiphon.

Van Occupanther got fans, bloggers, and musicians checking out Fleetwood Mac, America, Crosby Stills Nash and Young, and Bread while The Courage of Others looked towards British folk for its inspirations.
The band are Eric Pulido (vocals, guitars, keyboards ) Paul Alexander (bass, keyboards, bassoon, guitars, backing vocals ), McKenzie Smith (drums, percussion ) and Eric Nichelson (guitars, autoharp ), Jesse Chandler (keyboards, piano, flute, backing vocals ) and Joey McClellan (guitars, backing vocals ).
Eric Pulido describes their current sound: “On Antiphon we wanted to embrace the psychedelia, style and nuance you might hear in bands from yesteryear while also being aware of music influences present now. The result was less folk and more rock. Less nostalgic and more progressive. Now the sky’s the limit.”
