MLD therapy and the management of lymphoedema

Tuam Cancer Care Support and Information Centre will host two Saturday workshops this month. The first of these will be held on Saturday May 17 from 11am to 1pm. The subject will be manual lymph drainage therapy for the treatment and management of lymphoedema. Elaine Grehan, registered MLD therapist, will give an information presentation along with a demonstration of the Hivomat machine (deep tissue oscillator ), and the benefits of using this. This workshop will be of particular interest to people who would like to gain a better understanding of their own condition. There will be a questions and answers session afterwards, and a light lunch will be provided. Places are limited and booking is essential. The second workshop will discuss the emotional and psychological impact of a cancer diagnosis on a family, especially family members aged 13 to 19 years. This workshop is aimed at parents of teenagers. Dr Katie O'Brien, psychologist at St Luke's Hospital, will facilitate this workshop. There will be information handouts along with advice and a discussion around the emotional issues and difficulties teenagers experience when a parent is diagnosed with cancer, along with a Q&A session afterwards. A light lunch will be provided. Places are limited and booking is essential.
