Parkrun comes to Galway

What do London, Sydney, Copenhagen, Cape Town and now Galway have in common? Well, these are some of the worldwide locations that host a Parkrun event.

Parkrun is a global network of weekly 5km timed runs or walks in local parks that take place every Saturday morning year round. Parkrun comes toCappaghPark Knocknacarra on May 10 next with the meeting point at the new Cappagh Park Community Centre.

This free weekly event takes place at 9.30am every Saturday morning. It is hosted by local volunteers led by race director, Rob Partridge. Parkrun Galway is supported by the HSE through their Get Ireland Active initiative, Galway Sports Partnership and Galway City Council. The event provides both locals and visitors with a safe and fun environment for the perfect Saturday morning jog or walk. Facilities available to walkers and runners include toilets at the new community centre where there will also be post- activity refreshments.

Events are timed each week with results uploaded to the Parkrun website where the eager runners can track their runsandprogress. All participants, both walkers and runners, must register for the event on Facebook.com/knocknacarraparkrun Registration is free and once registered participants receive a unique barcode that enablesthemto take part at any of the global events without having to re-register.

Walkers and runners of all abilities are encouraged to register and take part in the event. Parkruns are run in a friendly non- competitive environment, there are no prizes and results are age graded.
