Galway brothers win major prizes in the World Irish Dance Championships

Brothers Michael (18 ) and Matthew (15 ) Gardiner from Parklands, Clarinbridge, are celebrating winning two major awards in the World Irish Dance Championships in London.

Michael won the coveted men’s u-19 title while Matthew came fourth in the u-15 category.

Born in Colorado, USA, both boys trained with the renowned Hession School of Dancing in Galway, with both starting their dancing careers at the age of five.

Michael has just completed his first year as an architecture student at the University of Limerick while Matthew is a Junior Cert student at the Presentation College in Athenry.

The Galway County Mayor, Cllr Liam Carroll, was at the family home in Parklands on Saturday to congratulate both Michael and Matthew on their achievements.
