Scottish composer to lead young Galwegians in concert

THE ACCLAIMED Scottish pianist and composer James Ross and students from the Galway Music Education Partnership will be in concert this Saturday from 7pm.

The concert, which takes place in Seapoint, Salthill, will feature performances of 10 new compositions, including a piece from the GMEP’s senior piano group, which was written by five young pianists together with James. The finale piece, ‘Ag Cumadh Ceoil Nua’, will be performed by all the participating groups.

James graduated from the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in 2000 and completed an MA in traditional music performance at the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance, UL, in 2001. His composition work has been inspired by traditional, contemporary, classical, and jazz music.

The Galway County Council has commissioned Galway Film Centre to make a documentary on James’ collaboration with the young Galway musicians, and the concert will be filmed by Des Kilbane.

Tickets are €5 and will be available in Seapoint on the night or by email through [email protected].
