Study French this summer in Galway — and in France

The summer programmes at the French Institute in Bridge Mills are set to begin from May 19.

The six-week courses for adults are available either in the morning or evening. They are aimed at all levels — beginners, improvers, intermediate, or advanced. Within the convivial surroundings of the old Bridge Mills, students can learn, improve, or just brush up their French.

There are courses on offer too for second year, Junior Cert, and Leaving Cert students who benefit from the qualified native French teachers and their knowledge of the exam techniques and requirements. A secondary school preparation course for nine to 13-year-olds aims to give students a good starting knowledge of the French language. The institute also proposes a fun introduction to French, for four to eight-year-olds.

For secondary school students who really want to immerse themselves in all things French, the institute offers homestay courses in conjunction with a small private school in beautiful Albi, near Toulouse in southwest France. Through morning classes and afternoon activities, participants gain a significant advantage in preparation for the Leaving Cert. Each student is hosted by a carefully chosen local family.

Places are fully booked for Albi in June but there are still vacancies available for the two-week July programme.

The French Institute also organises exchanges, which are of great linguistic and cultural benefit.
