Two Galway farmers are finalists in National Farmer of the Year Awards

Two Galway farmers are in the running to take home the top prize at the prestigious Farmer of the Year Awards, which will place in Dublin next week.

Kenneth Keavey from Corrandulla, owner of Green Earth Organics; and Ronan Byrne from Athenry, also known as The Friendly Farmer, have both been shortlisted in the Rising Star category of the inaugural Zurich Farming Independent Farmer of the Year Awards, which were developed to formally recognise the best farmers throughout the country. Mr Keavey is also in the running in the Tillage category.

Finalists were nominated by fellow farmers and peers, with all of those shortlisted in the running to receive €2,500 and, if awarded the overall Grand Prix, a possible additional prize to the value of €5,000.

The Farmer of the Year Awards, sponsored by Zurich Insurance, feature eight separate categories including Dairy, Beef, Tillage, and Sheep.

The overall winners will be announced at a special awards ceremony in Dublin on Friday May 9, along with the winner of a special Lifetime Achievement Award.
