Galway Ladies’ sights set on league final

Galway have advanced to the Tesco Home Grown NFL division 2 final after a dominant 3-23 to 0-11 win over Westmeath.

The Galway Ladies will now will play Westmeath in the title decider on May 10.

The Tribeswomen were up for the game, putting Meath under pressure from the start, and Lorna Joyce, Annette Clarke, Roisin Leonard and Gillian O’Connor put Galway four up inside the first five minutes.

Four more Leonard points and one each from Clarke and Joyce increased their lead before Catriona Cormican found the back of the net in the 20th minute.

Meath enjoyed a brief purple patch, scoring their first two points in the 22nd minute, but Galway added two more points in the closing minutes of the half before Roisin Leonard found the net in the 30th minute after intercepting an attempted kick-out. Aoibheann Daly and Ger Conneally added two more and Galway were in total control at the half, leading 2-14 to 0-2.

Although Meath, with wind, hit six after the resumption - four without reply - there was no way back when Annette Clarke scored a penalty in the 19th minute.
