Galway WFC wrapped up their first National League season with a 3-2 victory over neighbours Castlebar Celtic.
In an end-to-end game, Galway only grabbed the winner late in the game. Castlebar had taken the lead on 25 minutes through Emma Mullin, but 10 minutes later Jennifer Byrne equalised before Grainne Barrett put Galway ahead from a free kick after the break.
Once again Celtic came back strong with the ever threatening Irish u-19 international Sarah Rowe grabbing the equaliser. However Galway fought hard and were rewarded when Lynsey McKey snatched the winner towards the end of the tie.
It was a fine finish to the season, providing Galway with a sense of confidence that they can compete with the elite of Irish Women’s Football.
In the end of season awards, Lynsey McKey was voted players' player of the year with Keara Cormican winning young player of the year. Susie Cunnigham was also rewarded for her dedication to women’s football with a special award.
