An elderly woman died when she was struck by a car close to her home in Ballygar on Monday evening. Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the accident to come forward.
Kathleen Murray (85 ) was crossing the road near her home at The Square, Ballygar at 7.15pm on Monday when she was struck by a car. Ms Murray was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident, and her body was removed to Ballinasloe mortuary.
Garda forensic crash investigators examined the scene following the accident. Gardaí have appealed to witnesses of the accident, or anyone who was in Ballygar around the time of the incident, to contact Ballygar Garda Station at (090 ) 6624512 or Mountbellew Garda Station at (090 ) 9679292.
