Triathlon Ireland, the national governing body has set ambitious targets to move towards a 60:40 male to female split in membership over the coming years.

"In the past triathlon had a reputation as only being for elite athletes or the more hardcore but really anybody with a basic level of fitness can do one." says Triathlon Ireland's development officer, Scott Graham.

"Nationally there are almost 9000 members competing numerous times throughout the season and Galway would have a very strong representation and tradition," he says.

Galway Triathlon Club is one of the largest in the country while Predator Triathlon Club boasts the largest junior section in the country.
