SONGS FOR Amy, the independent Irish film about a musician desperately trying to win back the love of his life, is to be screened in the IMC Galway.
The film, which was shot in Kinvara and Galway, and starring Sean Maguire (ABC’s Once Upon A Time ), Lorna Anderson (Silent Witness ), and Kevin Ryan (NBC’s Crossbones ), premieres in Dublin on Thursday May 1 before opening in IMC cinemas across Ireland, including Galway, the following day (Friday 2 ).
Set in Ireland and New York; Songs For Amy follows musician Sean O’Malley (Maguire ) as he tries to redeem himself with bride-to-be, Amy (Anderson ), after a debauched stag do. With their relationship, and Sean’s future happiness, hanging in the balance, his plan is to write the perfect album of songs for her, with the help and hindrance from his misfit band mates.
Songs For Amy has already been screened at a number of film festivals. It was ranked fourth out of 400 films and won The Jury Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking’ at the Newport Beach Festival, California.
The film was selected for screening at the Galway Film Fleadh, the Whitaker Saint Louis International Film Festival, and the Glasgow Film Festival. It was also shown at the Hollywood Film Festival.
Reviews have been positive with Hollywood Today saying it “fully engages in the complexities of life”, while The LA Times praised it for “taking the cliché out of the love story”. Hotpress said it was “incredibly funny and beautifully shot...manages to make Galway city look more romantic than Paris”.
Continuing the Galway connection, the film soundtrack features Loughrea singer-songwriter Ultan Conlon and Tyrone born, Kinvara based, artist/musician Jim McKee. Galway favourites Alabama 3 play themselves in the film.
Songs For Amy was written and produced by Fiona Graham, founder of Sonny and Skye Productions, and directed by commercial director Konrad Begg.
