Bird watchers’ treat at Galway turlough

The Galway branch of the Irish Wildlife Trust will host a guided walk at Rahasane turlough near Craughwell on Saturday.

One of the largest turloughs in Ireland, Rahasane is an important wintering ground for various bird species.

Bird species that might be present on the day include curlew, wigeon, shoveler, pintail and little egret. Early spring migrants, such as chiffchaff and sand martin, may also be seen.

The walk kicks off at 11am from Killeeneen National School between Craughwell and Kilcolgan. Participants are advised to bring waterproof footwear and rain gear, and binoculars.

The walk is free, although donations are appreciated, and places are limited.
