Volunteer to work in Africa this summer

Irish aid organisation Nurture Africa is looking for Galway volunteers who would like to work in Uganda this summer.

The work is suitable for students, teachers, nurses, or people with general skills, but more importantly those who are hardworking and adaptable.

Placements in the Nansana, Wakiso District of Uganda, are from one to five weeks.

Volunteers will be following in the footsteps of Irish London 2012 Olympian Claire Bergin, who volunteered in Uganda with Nurture Africa.

Claire says she was blown away by the experience.

“It’s difficult to put my time spent in Uganda into words and to do it justice. I was blown away by the incredible work that Nurture Africa do in the communities within which they work, even having known the work that they do in advance of going.

“I met lots of amazing and inspirational people on my placement - Ugandans and Irish alike, It was an honour to be part of the 2013 October volunteer placement. I can say with 100 per cent confidence that the work being carried out by the staff and volunteers of Nurture Africa in areas of healthcare, education and economic empowerment, is going to a truly worthy cause.”

Claire says the volunteers all supported each other while in Uganda.

“I can only say thanks to all the other volunteer team members for making my time in Uganda an experience to remember, forever for all the right reasons."
