The funeral takes place today of Patrick O’Connor, the man who was tragically killed in a fire in his home in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Mr O’Connor died when a blaze engulfed the house, which he shared with his brother in Liss in Headford, while the two men were asleep. Despite the efforts of family members and two units of the Tuam fire brigade, they were unable to remove him from his bedroom.
The man’s brother, Oliver O’Connor, raised the alarm after he fled the burning house and made every effort to rouse his brother. Patrick was removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival. The cause of the fire is still unknown, however it is not thought to be suspicious.
This tragedy occured days after the unfortunate death of father of two and Athenry restaurant owner Cathal O’Malley, who was killed when his horse fell on top of him during a competitive hunter trials event at Annaharvey Farm, Tullamore.
Ballinasloe native O’Malley, an experienced rider and a member of the Galway Blazers Hunt, sustained fatal injuries when his horse caught a fence mid jump and fell on him. He was rushed to the nearby Midland Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Cathal O’Malley leaves behind his wife Fiona and two sons, four-year-old Darragh and newborn baby Gavin. Mr O’Malley’s funeral took place yesterday morning.
