AISLING PRIOR, a co-founder of the Galway Film Centre, has been appointed as curator of the 2014 TULCA Festival of Visual Art, which runs from November 7 to 23.
Ms Prior, along with Barra de Bhaldraithe, founded the Galway Film Centre in 1988. From its original premises on The Quays, it provided workshops in 16mm film-making and video production; published Film West magazine; and organised screenings in the Nuns Island Arts Centre.
Since then Ms Prior has served as director of the Sculptors’ Society of Ireland (now known as the VAI ), from 1991 to 1997; was curator of Breaking Ground, the art commissioning programme in Ballymun, from 2000 to 2008; and curated international and national group shows such as See Through Art at the Hugh Lane Gallery, and Ireland and Europe at the Iveagh Gardens and around Dublin.
