Classes and exhibitions at Galway Arts Centre

THOSE INTERESTED in getting creative for the New Year or who want to be challenged or provoked by the creativity of others should check out the classes and exhibitions at Galway Arts Centre.

Exhibitions

The centre’s print making show Impressions and the exhibition by London based printmaker Norman Ackroyd in Galway City Museum run until Saturday January 17. After that the centre’s exhibitions will focus on solo exhibitions by Irish based artists.

On January 23 two solo shows by Irish artists Michele Horrigan and Sinead Ní Mahaonaigh will open. Michele will also launch her latest publication at the opening. In March there will be a large solo exhibition by Aideen Barry. Aideen will premiere a new piece of work, Vacuuming In A Vacuum, which is shot in zero gravity in the NASA Kennedy space station in Florida.

Classes

The Galway Arts Centre’s Winter Classes Programme starts this month. The children’s classes begin on January 24 with the Saturday morning workshops. Adult classes begin on Monday 26 with both evening and day courses.

As well as the usual choices of creative writing, life drawing, photography, and acting, there are new classes to the programme, including drawing into paint with artist Maeve Curtis and the ‘Big Sing’ with Jewana Stevenson.

Booking for classes is recommended as places are limited. For more information contact 091 - 565886, email [email protected], or go to www.galwayartscentre.ie
