Titans Basktball Club has 10 teams involved in this month’s Galway basketball finals at both juvenile and adult level.
At adult level,Titans Themis, the men’s division 2 side, qualified for the Shield finals with an overtime victory against their friends from The Tribes.
The Titans had been behind for the entire game, but in the last three minutes and 11 points adrift, they staged a very late revival when Joe Coughlan hit an outside shot, and another from in close. Add in a couple of free throws for Titans, while and The Tribes, who had been prolific, seemed to dry up, and Titans sent the game into overtime after David Dillon nailed the equaliser.
In overtime Titans’ Mike Lydon, Bernard Cleary, and David Dillon finished out the game for a surprise win and an upcoming final against Na nGael who, equally surprisingly, crushed Moycullen 66- 27. The shield final will be played on April 15 in Calasanctius Collge at 8.45pm.
The team will join Titans Reservus, who play the in-form Claregalway in the Dominick King Cup final on Wednesday April 16 in Calsanctius College, Oranmore (8.45pm ), and Titans Ladies, who defeated Moycullen to qualify for the Ladies Cup finals. They also take on Claregalway on April 16 in Oranmore (7.15pm ).
Claregalway Senior Men’s team, who last night qualified for the division one men’s cup final in Oranmore on April 16 by beating Maree 2 in Claregalway by 85-66.
At juvenile level, Titans u-12s won their first girls’ A division final, beating Maree, while Moycullen claimed the boys and girls’ u-13 trophy, overcoming Titans in both finals. Titans claimed the u-16 B title over Corrib and Claregalway on the u-15 boys.
