New floodlighting installed at the playground in Coilte and Sruthan Mhuirlinne, near Merlin Castle, had a positive reception by local residents as it has done much to curb anti-social behaviour. However, Independent councillor Terry O’Flaherty has warned that it is imperative to maintain frequent Garda patrols.
Cllr O’Flaherty this week welcomed the new floodlights, similar to the ones used at sports grounds, adding that it came about as a result of a decision made at a public meeting attended by the residents of Clos Na Coille, Coillte, and Sruthan Mhuirlinne, Leas Na Coille, Bothar Waitman, plus a number of councillors.
“One of the main issues raised at the meeting was the anti-social behaviour by a number of out-of-control juveniles that are wreaking havoc in the area, and the fact that a lack of public lighting at the playground had been a cause of great concern for the residents,” said Cllr Flaherty, who as well as making representations to the gardai to increase patrols in this area, has also made very strong representations to the city council to install public lighting to curb this anti-social behaviour.
Cllr O’Flaherty concluded: “Since the lighting was installed last week the feedback from residents has been very positive. However, it is still imperative that frequent Garda patrols remain in this area.”
