Munster title for Galway men’s hockey

Galway Men’s Hockey Club has won the Munster Barber Cup, beating Midleton in the final in Villiers Limerick.

In a comprehensive 8-2 victory, Galway’s Fergal Moynihan, David Kennedy, and Cathal Connelly all scored two apiece, with captain Damien Kelly and Darragh Colleran also on the scoresheet.

Midleton were forced to defend for much of the opening half as Galway exerted pressure and maintained the majority of possession.

Kelly was first to score from a short corner, and just before half time Fergal Moynihan scored from play.

And they laid seige on Midleton immediately after the resumption when Dave Kennedy scored the first of his two goals inside a minute.

There was no let up for Midleton with more goals added by Cathal Connolly before Darragh Colleran chipped the Midleton goalie to help his side run out 8-2 winners.

Captain Damien Kelly was delighted with the performance, which sealed the club’s seasonal ambitions to win both cup and league trophies.

As a result the club is already looking forward to next season and is looking to attract some new names to the panel.
