Council must ‘take action’ on unfinished Claregalway estate says Shevlin

The Galway County Council must “take action” on Cúirt na hAbhainn estate in Claregalway, where half of the houses are unfinished and many remain unsold.

This is the view of Labour Athenry-Oranmore ward candidate Clement Shevlin, who said this is only one of a number of such estates in Corrandulla, Athenry, and Oranmore.

“I met with several young families living in the estate, who are paying very high levels of rent, and yet are beside empty, boarded-up, houses,” he said. “They are frustrated, they’re being ignored by developers, and are asking how long they will have to put up with this situation.”

Labour Housing Minister Jan O’Sullivan recently announced funding for unfinished estates, and Mr Shevlin urged the county council “to do all in its powers to press for Cúirt na hAbhainn to be included in any upcoming rounds of funding”.
