Galwegians have one hand on the title

Galwegians, having already sealed promotion in the Ulster Bank League, will want to maintain their momentum when they head to Dublin to take on Bective Rangers on Sunday (2.30pm ).

Leading the division 2A by 14 points and with a massive points difference of 192, Galwegians will want to finish the season with a flourish and seal the title.

In Bective Rangers, they face a side sitting mid table with little to play for but pride, but Galwegian coach Cory Brown will want to ensure his players take nothing for granted in this penultimate fixture.

Last weekend Galwegians showed real character and confidence when forced to dig deep to see off fellow promotion hopefuls NUIM Barnhall by 12-10.

The hosts, also in hot pursuit of a promotion place, took an early 3-0 lead through Simon Gillespie which they maintained through to half time.

And it got worse for Galwegians when Gareth Murray dived over for a well-taken try, with Gillespie converting to stretch the lead to 10-0 just after the interval.

However Wegians kept their composure and from a trademark line-out maul, the pack battered their way forward with No 8 Dan McCabe claiming the touchdown, with Darragh Leader converting.

Wegians dominated the third quarter and were rewarded when Jerome Harrimate finished a superb move to dive over in the corner for an excellent try, his third in successive games and his sixth in the campaign to lead the league’s try scoring stakes. Leader missed the difficult conversion to leave the game delicately poised at 12-10.
