THE GREAT Irish pianist John O’Conor will perform John Field’s Three Nocturnes in the Aula Maxima, NUI Galway, on Friday March 28 at 8pm.
O’Conor will also perform one of Beethoven’s most well-loved sonatas, the Waldstein; Schubert’s lyrical Sonata in C minor, D 958; and Variations on La Ricordanza by Czerny, a Russian composer more known for his technical exercises than actual works for performance.
A Steinway Artist, he is chair of the Piano Division at Shenandoah Conservatory, will join the faculty of the Glenn Gould School at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto in September 2014. He is visiting professor at Showa University, Japan, and continues to teach at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, Dublin.
As well as the concet, O’Conor John will give a workshop for piano teachers at Maoin Cheoil na Gaillimhe at St Mary’s College, St Mary’s Road on Saturday at 9am. For more information contact 091 - 528965.
