Concert for Mike Diskin takes place next week

A concert, which is being likened to a ‘mini-festival’, celebrating the life and work of the late Town Hall Theatre manager Mike Diskin, takes place in the Town Hall on Sunday March 30.

The concert will raise funds for the Mike Diskin Arts Bursary, which will go to an artist or arts group to help develop work of an innovative or original nature. The bands and theatrical companies taking part are contributing their services free of charge.

According to Ollie Jennings, who is one of the main organising the event, the concert “will be like a mini-festival” and feature performances from Macnas, Mephisto Theatre Company, and actor Rod Goodall, along with music from We Banjo 3, whose debut album Roots of the Banjo Tree was voted The Irish Times Traditional Album of the Year 2012; My Fellow Sponges, the video for their single, ‘This Dream Song’ was voted No 6 in the Top 10 Irish Music Videos of 2013 by Goldenplec; and The Cabin Collective, featuring The Saw Doctors’ Leo Moran, The Waterboys’ Anthony Thistlewaite, and singer-songwriter Noelie McDonnell.

Actor and writer Little John Nee is assembling the Caledonia Highly Strung Orchestra to play songs from their forthcoming debut album, Songs from The Lough Swilly Delta; The Amazing Apples, who have just released their new single, ‘Slipping By’ will also play; as will an all-star traditional band featuring Alan Kelly, Sean Smyth, Steph Jeremia, Breda Smyth, and Kevin Haugh.

Tickets are available from the Town Hall on 091 - 569777 or www.tht.ie
