Calling Galway schools for poetry slam

THE BRAVE New Words Schools Poetry Slam comes to the Black Box Theatre on Tuesday April 8 and could eventually see young Galway poets performing on HBO.

Brave New Words, which has featured on RTÉ TwoTube and Nationwide, is aimed at transition year students and below. It aims to improve literacy, encourage creativity and performance, and help young people make themselves heard.

A poetry slam is where poets and spoken word artists perform a piece of original work to an audience and judges. Scores are given and a winner is chosen. Galway is one of the venues for the Irish regional finals, and the winners of each heat qualify for the All-Ireland Final in late May, and which will be broadcast on TV in June.

The top three poets from the final will win a trip to the USA to perform on HBO Televisions Brave New Voices Festival. Galway schools interested in taking part should contact Stephen Murray on 083 - 3278083, email [email protected], or see inspireland.ie/poetry-slam-ireland-brave-new-words

Admission to the Black Box event is €7 and doors are at 1pm.
