Máirtín O'Connor Band to play An Spidéal

THE MÁIRTÍN O’Connor Band, featuring the titan talents of Cathal Hayden, Seamie O’Dowd, and Jim Higgins, and the great man himself, play the Éigse an Spidéil festival this weekend.

The festival launch takes place today in the Park Lodge Hotel, and includes a performance by An Gaelacadamh’s young sean-nós singers and sketches and dialogues with Bróna, Páid, and Aisling Ní Neachtain.

Tomorrow, Irish language poets will be reading in An Crúiscín Lán. The special guests are poet Liam Ó Muirthile and composer/musician Jack Talty. There will also be an open mic for Irish language poets. Jack will also play at the session after with Seosamh Ó Neachtain and Pádraig Ó Dubhghaill.

Saturday is the main day of the festival with several events; including the annual sean nós singing competition for under 18s at 12 noon in the Park Lodge Hotel; while 2013 TG4 Young Musician of the Year Donal McCague will run a fiddle masterclass in Coláiste Chonnacht from 1.30pm.

The Éigse concert takes place on Saturday in the Park Lodge Hotel and features Donal and Michael McCague and The Máirtín O’Connor Band, while Johnny Óg Connolly and Brian McGrath will play the session after the concert.

Sunday’s programme features a guided walk in An Spidéal at 12.30; the closing session with Colm and Kelly Gannon; and the presentation of the Laoch an Traidisiúin award in Tigh Hughes at 2pm.
