Galway Ladies in top tussle

Galway Ladies host a top-of-the-table clash in their Tesco HomeGrown NFL division two fixture on Sunday.

Currently both teams are unbeaten with four wins, sharing top spot in the league table, but the Tribeswomen enjoy a superior points differential.

And last Sunday Galway added considerably to that tally with a comprehensive 4-12 to 1-4 win over Clare in Corofin.

Una Carroll sent Galway on their way with a point in the first minute before Roisin Leonard added a free four minutes later.

Initially Clare were well up for the game with their defence keeping Galway in line until Lorna Joyce added a third point in the 16th minute. It signalled the start of a purple patch for the Tribeswomen who added three scores in a two-minute spell. Leonard grabbed a goal and a point, while Meadbh Maloney added another point to kill off the Clare challenge.

Galway had built a 2-7 to 0-0 lead at half time with Caitriona Cormican scored the second goal, while Leonard and Ger Conneally extended the goal tally to four in the second half.

Galway Ladies began their defence of the All Ireland minor football crown with a 9-18 to 3-5 victory over Mayo in Balindine on Sunday.

Louise Ward bagged four goals, Ciara Lynagh struck for 3-2, and Olivia Divilly added 1-06 for the winners.
