Flannery demands answers on Knocknacarra Community Centre opening and staffing

Until a management structure for the Knocknacarra Community Centre is put in place to deal with opening times and staffing, the public will not “able to enjoy this facility”.

This is the verdict of Fine Gael Galway City West candidate Pearce Flannery, who said the centre is closed two days a week and is often inaccessible due to staffing issues.

“The centre cost €3 million,” said Mr Flannery, who added that €300,000 was “handed over to City Hall”, by the caretaker community company KCCL on behalf of the community.

“This should be a time for the community to actively utilise and enjoy this facility 12 to 16 hours a day, but problems exist and questions need to be asked,” he said.

Mr Flannery is now asking why no management structure was put in place. He also said the centre appears to “only be suitable for basketball or indoor soccer” and that this is “far too restrictive for a community centre”.
