Movie shot in Galway to get May cinema release

Songs For Amy, the independent Irish film which was shot around the Kinvara area, with a soundtrack featuring Galway musicians Ultan Conlon and Jim McKee, will open in selected IMC Cinemas on May 2.

Written and produced by Fiona Graham, Songs For Amy, follows musician Sean O’Malley (Sean Maguire - Once Upon A Time, LA Blues ) as he tries to redeem himself with bride-to-be, Amy (Lorna Anderson - Silent Witness ), after a debauched stag do.

With their relationship and Sean’s future happiness hanging in the balance, his plan is to write the perfect album of songs for her, with help and hindrance from his misfit band mates.

The film is directed by the BAFTA and Emmy nominated Konrad Begg, whose credits include Bear Grylls’ Born Survivor and Crimes that Shook the World. The cast also features Ross MacMahon (Hatch ) and Ford Kiernan (Gangs of New York ), Olywn Boyle (Take Me Out ), James Cosmo (Game of Thrones ), Patrick Bergin (Sleeping With The Enemy ), with Alabama 3 appearing as themselves.

Songs For Amy has already been featured in a number of film festivals where it has met with critical acclaim. Hotpress called it “incredibly funny and beautifully shot...manages to make Galway city look more romantic than Paris”; Hollywood Today said it “fully engages in the complexities of life”; while the LA Times praised it for “taking the cliché out of the love story”.

Songs for Amy was also selected for the Newport Beach Festival in California, where it was ranked fourth out of 400 films and won The Jury Award for ‘Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking’.

The film has also been selected for screening at the Galway Film Fleadh, 21st Annual Whitaker Saint Louis International Film Festival and the Glasgow Film Festival, where it was the first film to sell out both screenings.
