DAVID MAMET’S Oleanna divided audiences upon its original production in 1992 and still divides audiences today.
Galway theatregoers will now have a chance to see and discuss this controversial drama about power, privilege, and sexual politics, when it is performed by Quick Forge Productions in The Mick Lally Theatre, Druid Lane, tomorrow and Saturday at 8pm.
Confused and struggling student Carol (Julie Ann McKiernan ), visits her pompous professor, John (John McEvoy ), worried about her grades. Rather than directly address her concerns, John, who has unorthodox views about education, decides to help Carol in his own unconventional way.
However, his rambling stories and distracted nature, as well as his offer of help, are misconstrued by Carol, leading to a series of misunderstandings and miscommunications with tragic consequences.
Oleanna is directed by Damien O’Brien. Tickets are €18/16 through www.entertainment.ie and on the door.
