Frank McGuinness’s Electra @ NUIG

FRANK MCGUINNESS’S adaptation of Sophocles’ Electra will be staged as part of the inaugural NUI Galway Theatre Season.

Directed by Charlotte McIvor, the play runs at The Cube, beside the Bailey Allen Hall, from Sunday March 9 to Tuesday 11 at 8pm and at 10am on March 10 and 11.

Frank McGuinness will attend the March 10 10am show and take part in a post-show talk with Charlotte McIvor and production dramaturge, Dr Anastasia Remendou-Howley.

Electra mourns the death of her father, Agammenon, at the hands of her mother, Clytemnestra, and her lover, Aegisthus. She also hungers for justice until a familiar-looking stranger arrives and transforms the fate Electra and her family.

“Electra is the female Hamlet,” Frank McGuinness said, “calling a whole life into question, a woman utterly exposed by her own terror.”

The production features first year BA to MA to PhD level students, as well as several alumni.
