ConTempo and O’Connor - when trad meets classical

TRAD TITANS Máirtín O’Connor, Garry O’Briain and Cathal Hayden are joining forces with the mighty ConTempo Quartet for a concert in Galway next month.

The latest instalment of the celebrated O’Connor/ConTempo collaborations, the concert takes place in The Hotel Meyrick, Eyre Square, on Thursday March 6 at 8pm.

Irish trad, classical, and Romanian folk music will be performed, as well as fusion pieces such as ‘The Bachs of Oranmore’, which mixes Bach’s Partitas with Irish trad; and ‘Locatelli's Trip to Lough Atalia’, a polka by O’Connor combined with an allegro by the Italian Baroque composer Locatelli.

ConTempo have won 14 international prizes and have performed in Carnegie Hall, New York and The Philharmonic Hall, Berlin. Máirtín O’Connor has been a member of De Dannan, Midnight Well, and Skylark; Garry O’Briain is a multi-instrumentalist, songwriter, and producer. Cathal Hayden is a multiple All-Ireland Championship winner and founder member of Four Men and a Dog.
