Je ne regrette rien - the songs of Édith Piaf

EDITH PIAF, the great voice behind the immortal song ‘Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien’ and an icon of French song, will be celebrated in the Róisín Dubh.

Irish chanson performer Jeannette Byrne is bringing her No Regrets - The music of Édith Piaf to the Dominick Street venue on Friday February 28 at 8pm.

No Regrets features many of the well known and not so well known songs of Piaf. It also features music from other composers who were discovered or owed much of their success or start in the music world to the Frenchwoman.

The triumph and tragedy of Piaf’s life was poured into such songs as ‘La Vie En Rose’ and ‘Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien’ and her influence is immense, whether it be on singers such as Adele, or songwriters like Charles Aznavour, Michel Legrand, or Jacques Brel.

Jeannette’s passion for Piaf and French popular song came from the Irishwoman’s French grandmother and has driven her to perform and record many such numbers with an orchestra, a café band, or simply a pianist.

Her career began in the 1990s when she worked with Jack L on his debut album Wax, taking lead vocals on a couple of numbers. She has since gone on to release the EP Une Femme and the album Elegy, her next album, Café Diva, will be a celebration of 40 years of the best French music. In 2011 Jeannette performed at the Cannes Film Festival.

Tickets are available at www.roisindubh.net, the Ticket Desk at OMG Zhivago, Shop Street, and The Róisín Dubh.
